Common Application:

  1. Make sure the Common App application is completed and reviewed by the  College Advisors, counselors, parents etc.
  2. Make sure to double check the grammar and spelling mistakes.
  3. Make sure the all your colleges listed in your account.
  4. Make sure to double check the supplemental essay requirement.
  5. Make sure common app essay and supplemental essays are uploaded.

Recommendation links:

  1. Make sure all recommendations have been submitted.
  2.  Contacted the recommender if the recommendations were not submitted.
  3. Make sure college counselor / advisor recommendation is sent.
  4. Make sure other external recommendations are submitted.

Transcript:

  1. Review your grades with the teachers and make sure all the grades are submitted.
  2. Check with school admin and make sure the transcripts are send to your colleges.
  3. SAT or ACT score  if submitting make sure they are submitted directly by College-board or ACT.org.
  4. Make sure the AP scores are sent to college too.

Financial:

  1. Be aware of financial aid deadlines for each college.
  2. All colleges will require the FAFSA and some colleges require the CSS Profile.
  3. Check the website of each college to determine what forms are needed to complete that process.

Check points:

  1. Make sure the application is submitted earlier then 12.00 a.m. Since its an online application lot of submission will happen at very last moment. There is a possibility of server crash if lot of hit at same time.
  2. Make sure to check your email after applying to colleges the link are sent from colleges to create the account.
  3. After submitting application check with school admins about your transcripts, with your teachers for recommendation etc.
  4. Create the accounts in the colleges after submitting to application to make sure there is no additional document requirement.
  5. Lastly thank your advisor , teachers, parents and any additional recommender who has helped in your college application.

Seniors’ Responsibilities

  • Submit the Common Application and college-specific questions via the Common App website.
  • Submit standardized test scores directly from the College Board or ACT (if not applying test-optional).
  • Check your email after applying to colleges.
    • Often colleges will send a link to create a portal where students can check the status of the application or where they will notify students of important next steps to complete the application process.
  • Notify your college counselor immediately if you add any colleges to your application list after the November 1 deadline.
  • Be aware of financial aid deadlines for each college.

  • Check the College Counseling Class of 2023 Google Classroom regularly for updates to the Scholarship List and other important announcements.
  • Write a thank you note to the teachers who have written your letters of recommendation. This important part of the process is an extra responsibility for the teachers and your application is enriched because of their hard work.
  • Share college admissions news with your college counselor. We want to celebrate your accomplishments and hard work with you!

College Counseling Office’s Responsibilities:

  • Submit the transcript, counselor letter of recommendation, and teacher letters of recommendation via Naviance.
  • Submit First Quarter grades.
    • These will be sent automatically during the week of November 7.Please see your college counselor only if you DO NOT want them sent to each college.

On a final note, we are excited to announce that Mr. Matthew Hyszczak will be joining the College Counseling team on November 1. Mr. Hyszczak is coming to Austin Prep from the University of Louisville, where he was a Senior Admissions Counselor. Prior to that, he was in admissions at both Emmanuel College and Connecticut College. Please stop by the office to welcome him!
