SSAT 2022: An overview of the SSAT
All levels of the SSAT contain verbal, quantitative (math), and reading comprehension sections and an unscored writing sample. All tests are printed and administered in English.
The Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT), and moreover it’s used for admission to private middle schools and high schools, so, the purpose of the SSAT is to attend an elite private middle or high school, this is a test you’ll need to do well on. Because the SSAT helps test students for admission to private middle and high schools, different levels of the test are:
- Upper Level- 8th grade and above.
- Middle Level- 5th, 6th and 7th grade.
- Elementary Level- 3rd and 4th grade.
What’s on the SSAT?
- Quantitative (Math): Composed of math computation also.
- Verbal: Vocabulary and analogy questions.
- Reading: Reading passages.
- Writing Sample: The writing sample is not scored, but schools use it to assess writing skills.
- Experimental: Mixed content questions similarly(verbal, reading, and math). Now this section does not count toward reported scores.
Elementary Level SSAT Test
There are a total of 89 Questions. Exam timing 2hours 5 minutes.

Middle/Upper-Level SSAT Test
There are a total of 167 Questions. Exam timing 3hours 5 minutes.
Of the 167 items including the writing sample, only 150 questions are scored.
