The much awaited JEE Advanced examination was held on 21st May 2017 at various centers across the country. Like every year, the exam was conducted across two papers.

  • Paper 1 was held from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
  • Paper 2 was held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Over 200000 applicants have pinned their hopes to this exam as their gateway to the prestigious IITs of the country. This year, the cut-off to qualify for JEE Advanced stood at 81 for General students, 49 for OBC, 31 for SC and 27 for ST students. This exam is considered one of, if not the trickiest to crack in India. Paper setting is completely at the behest of examiners. No two consecutive exams are the same. Subject weightage, marking schemes, question formats and even total marks are unknown variables in this exam.

Paper 1 review

There was negative marking in two sections but no negative marking in integer type questions this year. The introduction of partial marking in the question of one or more than one correct answer would have given some relief to students and could also boost cut-offs.

  • Maximum marks: 183
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • The booklet had 36 printed pages and 54 questions in total.
  • There were three parts of Paper-1. Marks for each subject were 61.
  • In each part there were three sections- Section 1 (Maximum marks – 28), Section 2 (Maximum marks – 15) and Section 3 (Maximum marks 18).

Paper 2 review

In line with Paper 1, there was negative marking in two sections and no negative marking in the section containing paragraph based questions.

  • Maximum marks: 183
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Booklet had 36 printed pages and 54 questions in total.
  • There are three parts of Paper-2. Marks for each subject were 61.
  • In each part there are three sections- Section 1 (Maximum marks – 21), Section 2 (Maximum marks – 28) & Section 3 (Maximum marks – 12)

All applicants will now look forward to the results – scheduled to be declared on 4th June – with bated breath. The rank they achieve in this exam will define their prospects of entering the IITs.

We wish you all the very best!
