High School Senior Year Time Management

Summer is over now the senior year has finally arrived. It’s time to get serious about college applications. Senior year is no time to slack off. It is critical that you keep your grades up, keep up with all the deadlines, etc. You want to have a well-rounded set of extracurricular experiences, but make sure your schedule is balanced. Grades are still the most vital factor in college admissions.

The first six months of the senior year are very challenging for the seniors. The kids are stress due to SAT/ACTs, AP exams, college essays, college applications, grades, and extracurricular activities.

Month-by-Month Planning:

September:

  • Guidance Counseling: Start with a Guidance counselor and go over the final college list and admission process.
  • Letter of recommendation: Send the request to the teacher for a letter of recommendation.
  • College Application: Create the accounts for each college application or common app.
  • College Essay: Start working on the initial draft of the college application.
  • SAT Registration: Register the upcoming SAT if you plan to give it again.
  • Grade and Extracurriculars: Maintain the grades as well as participate in the Extracurricular activities.

October:

  • Work application: Start working on your college applications in earnest for early action.
  • Testing: Registration for SAT or ACT.
  • Others: Some tech videos or art portfolios.

November:

  • Application: In November month have to complete all the applications and get feedback about the essay.
  • Financial aids and scholarship: Complete the financial application.
  • Testing: Register for December SAT and ACT if still planning to take the test.
  • Review the grade: Review the mid-term grades and start working hard.

December, January, and February:

  • Submit application: Keep tracking application deadlines and submit them.
  • Finalize other applications: Finalize and submit all other components of the application like tech videos or art portfolios.
  • Financial aids: However complete the financial aids of all the schools.
  • Grades: Send grades to the colleges.
